Review tour: Waiting for the Storm by Marie Landry + Giveaway

Synopsis
Waiting for the StormCharlotte O’Dell knows this summer is going to suck. Her beloved mother just died, her sister hates her, and her dad has completely checked out. Fulfilling her mother’s final wish, the family heads to Angel Island for the summer to stay in a beach house her mother once loved.

After a year of being shut away taking care of her mother, Charlotte is numb and practically afraid of her own shadow; she hopes going to the island will give her the time and space she needs to begin healing, and an opportunity to bring her family back together. When she meets her mysterious neighbor, Ezra, it doesn’t take long for Charlotte to confess the issues she’s developed. Ezra begins giving Charlotte assignments to get over her fears, and although she accepts his tasks, all she really wants is to be with him. When she’s with Ezra, she’s able to forget the hollow ache in her heart and the fact that her family is falling apart. But Ezra has secrets…

Can Charlotte pull what’s left of her family together, mend her broken heart, and allow herself to fall for Ezra? Or is it all just a storm waiting to happen?

Opinion
Waiting for The Storm was amazing! I have no other words to describe this book. From the very first page I got pulled into the story and I couldn’t let it go.  Charlotte’s family has fallen apart after her mom died. They decide to take a family trip together to a place where her mother spend her summer vacations as a teenager, as it was her last wish.  They all struggle with their grief in their own way. Charlotte’s younger sister Ella complete changed from a sweet girl to a complete b*tch. Her dad acts like a zombie and doesn’t know what happens around him half of the time. And Charlotte herself likes to be alone because she has the feeling that nobody understands what she has gone through. But that changes if she meets the boy next door, Ezra.  Ezra seems to understand her when no one else does and most of all he listens to her when no one else does.

What I loved about this book was that you could see all the characters grow during this book. Charlotte started  as a broken seventeen-year-old girl, but in the end she managed to net let her grief control her life. Ezra himself too was hunted by the past, so like Charlotte he tends to stick to his self. As the story continues you get to knew Ezras past piece by piece. Which I liked, because what’s the fun if you get to know it in one big piece?  So Ezra and Charlotte were perfect for healing each other.
Ella’s healing process was more drastic and I wouldn’t have minded if the process was slower. Because now it seemed like she changed completely in just one night. I also wouldn’t have minded to have known more about the side character Miranda and Kennedy, they looked very lovely girls.
It was easy enough to like Charlotte and Ezra as protagonists. They were kind, caring and funny. And I’m sure that if it was possible to come across Ezra in real life that I would swoon.

I’m glad that I had the opportunity to read this book and I’m definitely going to read other books by this author.
