Review Tour: The Emblazoned Red by Dawn McCullough White

Synopsis
17999913
Once, in another world—a dark world, the world of Faetta—there lived paladins and pirates, tyrants and scallywags, vampires and the undead. In this world a revolution is brewing. The royalty of Sieunes are in chains, and those priests and paladins who follow the holy word of the gods are under attack. In the west, the kingdom of Kellerhald receives the fleeing priests in their temples of the paladins of Silvius, god of the Sky.
Here, a young woman has just passed her tests to become a paladin. A pirate crew raids along the Azez Sea. An undead creature, wielding great power, roams the graveyard of Yetta. And a lost soul, crying out from beyond the veil, seeks out a pure hearted warrior to hear its plea.
Amid the turmoil of the revolution, Ilka’s mettle is tested. Rescued by pirates, she ends up with an unlikely ally: the pirate captain himself. The newly trained paladin finds herself collaborating with the undead, working with a vampire, and worst of all, longing for revenge against the man who has ignited the revolution in Sieunes: Francois Mond.
Death of an Innocent. Rise of a Paladin.
Opinion
The Emblazoned Red was different than I expected it to be. I expected more action in it, but it was still good. At first it was a bit difficult for me to get into it, because the point of views constantly changed. But after I got used to it, I really enjoyed reading it. The writing and the plot itself were very good, but it wasn’t very deep, which I mist.
Most of the story we saw true Ilka’s eyes, a paladin. Which was good since I really liked her, she’s a strong girl who knows what she wants and she has a really strong determination. We also got to know her past, which we don’t know of other characters. The next most interesting person was definitely Nate. He might be a pirate, but well he doesn’t act like one. Definitely not when he’s around Ilka. I don’t know about the other characters that appeared like the vampire Augustine, Sylian, Cameo and the king. Maybe we will get to know them better in the next books or maybe they were important in the original books, as this is a spin-off series. Reading the original series, Trilogy of the Shadows, beforehand is probably a good idea since you might get to know the world that Ilka and the other live in better.
This book is probably not a book that I’m going to reread again soon, but in the end I really enjoyed it.
