In Theater

Hi!

Who doesn't like to see a book that you love turned into a movie? A least I do. So here is a list of books that are turned into movie.

The Host
A dystopian book written by Stephenie Meyer. And in my opinion it was defenitely better than Twilight.
Staring Saoirse Ronan as Melanie/Wander, Jake Abel as Ian and Max Irons as Jared.
In theaters: 03/29/2013

Beautiful Creatures
A book by Kami Garcia and Margareth Stohl. I haven't read the book yet so I don't know if I should be exited about this movie or not. But the trailer looks promissing.
Staring: Alden Ehrenreich as Ethan Lawson Wate, Alice Englert as Lena Duchannes and Jeremy Irons as Macon Ravenwood
In theaters: 2/13/2013

The Mortal Instrument
The world famous book by Cassandra Clare. Till now I have only read the first to books in the series, but I definitely want to see the movie.
Staring: Lily Collins as Clary Fray, Jamie Campbell Bower as Jace Wayland, Jonathan Rhys Meyers as Valentine Morgenstern and Robert Sheehan as Simon Lewis
In theaters: 08/23/2012

Warm Bodies
I never really liked zombie novels, so I haven't read this one. But the trailer of the book look great so maybe I'm going to give this book by Isaac Marion.
Staring: Nicholas Holt as R and Teresa Palmer as Julie Grigio
In theater: 02/01/2013

The Hobbit part 2: The Desolation of Smaug
I just love this book and the first movie was so great! I'm really looking forward to this movie.
Staring: Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins, Ian McKellen as Gandalf the Grey and Richard Armitage as Thorin Oakenshield.
In theaters: 2013
No trailer

Catching Fire
The sequel to The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, great book. I hope that this movie will be as good as the previous one.
Staring: Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen, Josh Hutcherson as Peeta Mellark and Liam Hemsworth as Gale Hawthorne.
In theaters: 11/11/2013
No trailer

Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters
The second book in the Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan. I have never read one of the books, but the first movie was pretty good.
Staring: Logan Lerman as Percy Jackson, Alexandra Daddario as Annabeth Chase and Brandon T. Jackson as Grover Underwood
In theaters: 08/16/2013
No trailer

Save Haven
Another book by Nicholas Sparks that will be made into a movie. If this book/movie is as good as all the others than I'm really looking forward to see it.
Staring: Julianne Hough as Katie Fieldman and Josh Duhamel as Alex Wheatley.
In theaters: 02/14/2013

If I forgot some movies please let me know and I will put them in this list. Which movie(s) do you want to see? And which book would you like to see made into a movie?

A Shimmer of Angels - Lisa M. Basso

Hi!

This is my review for A Shimmer of Angels by Lisa M. Baso.

Short description
A Shimmer of Angels (Angel Sight, #1)Sixteen-year-old Rayna sees angels, and has the medication and weekly therapy sessions to prove it. Now, in remission, Rayna starts fresh at a new school, lands a new job, and desperately tries for normalcy. She ignores signs that she may be slipping into the world she has tried so hard to climb out of. But these days, it’s more than just hallucinations that keep Rayna up at night. Students are dying, and she may be the only one who can stop it. Can she keep her job, her sanity, and her friends from dying at the hands of angels she can't admit to seeing?

My opinion

My first thought when I read the short description was not another angel book. But this was a good one! Of course there were things that were the same as in almost every angel book: fallen angels vs. goodies.  But Ray made this book better. They made her belief that she was nuts, but in reality she’s  gifted. But then of course you a have the love triangle *sighs* Cam – Ray – Kade. But the good thing is that the triangle wasn’t fully developed yet in  this book and at the end of the book the author made us believe that one of the boys was leaving, and I hope he did. Anyway I preferred Kade, the bad guy, perfect boys just get boring after a while. So I hope that if there’s going to be a love triangle that Kade will win in the end.
So it was a very good book that I couldn’t get enough off. And I’m really looking forward to read the next one, certainly after the ending of this one.

Liebster Blog Award

Hi!

I wanted to let you know that I'm nominated for the Liebster Blog Award by Avanti from Avanti's Place and by Myra from Book Reviews. And I'm very thankful for that, because I like knowing that people like what I'm writing.

Rules of the Award
  1. Thank your Liebster Blog Award presenter on your blog and link back to the blogger who presented this award to you.
  2. Answer the 11 questions from the nominator, list 11 random facts about yourself and create 11 questions for your nominees
  3. Present the Liebster Blog Award to 11 blogs of 200 followers or less who you feel deserve to be noticed and leave a comment on their blog letting them know they have been chosen. (no tag backs)
  4. Copy and paste the blog award on your blog.
11 Questions from Avanti

1. What are you currently reading & why did you choose that book?
I'm currently reading The Sweet Far Thing by Libba Bray. And I'm actually rereading it because I loved it so much when I was reading it for the first time.

2. Why do you love reading so much?
When I'm reading I forget about reality, the book is reality to me. And when reading I can see everything in front of me like I want it to be, so it's better than a movie.

3. Why did you start blogging?
Nobody I know loves to read as much as I do and I really liked to share my opinion of books with other people. And that's why blogging is a good solution.

4. If you could be any character for a day who would it be?
There's in almost every book a character that I would like to be. But if I really have to choose, I would pick Rose Hathaway because she's a very spontaneous, smart, funny and strong character.

5. When you finish a book do you keep it or pass it on?
Depends, most of the books I read I keep to myself, but if they are really good I tell everybody how great they are and then I lend my books to others. But sometimes I want to keep the book to myself because it's like the book is a part of me and then I don't want to share at all.

6. Favorite movie & why?
I don't really have a favorite, I have four categories: movies that I really like, movies that I like, movies that I don't like and movies that I hate. Till now I never have seen a movie that completely blew me away. But some of my favorite movies are The curious Case of Benjamin Button, The Moulin Rouge, Persuasion, The Hobbit and the Harry Potter movies.

7. Favorite book to movie adaptation?
I can't choose between Harry Potter and The Hobbit. The Harry Potter movies stay very close to the books, you can sometimes literally now what the characters is going to say, and that's something that I like. The Hobbit changed a bit in the movie, but it fitted the so well that it was just like Tolkien had meant it that way.

8. What type of music do you like?
I listen to all kinds of music from pop to punkrock, from alternative to post-hardcore, from indie to drum 'n bass... . My favorite bands/signers of the moment are You Me At Six, Imagine Dragons, Sleeping with Sirens and Gabrielle Aplin.

11. Where's your favorite place to read?
My favorite place is in bed, because it's soft and warm. I even go read in my bed in the middle of the day.

10. Favorite hobby besides reading?
Running, go out with friends and writing.

11. If you could go anywhere right now, where would you go?
Australia, I have never been there but it seems an incredible place to visit someday.

11 Questions from Myra

1. When did you start blogging & why?
I first stopped blogging in September 2011, I had a Dutch book blog. But in September 2012 I started with this blog. Why see question 3 Avanti.

2. What's your favorite book ever?
Jane Eyre I my favorite book. When I first read it I found the beginning of the book rather boring, but when I got further in the book it just blew me away. And after rereading the book I even loved the beginning of it.

3. Do you study or work & what kind of study/work do you do?
I'm in my freshman year Tourism and Recreationmanagement. I love it so far.

4. Do you have any brothers or sisters?
I have one sister who's older than me.

5. How many books do you estimate you own?
Accordingly to Goodreads I own 47 books.

6. Do you always buy books or do you go to the library or borrow from a friend?
If I had to buy all the books I read, than I was broke. So I often go to the library, but if I really like a book or if it's cheap than I  go buy the book. I rarely borrow a book from a friend, because most of them I have already read and my friends don't read as much as I do.

7. Where's your favorite place to read?
See question 11 Avanti.

8. What book are you reading right now & why did you choose this one?
See question 1 Avanti.

9. Do you prefer series or standalone books?
I don't mind if they are standalone or if it's a series. I read them both with the same pleasure. The only negative things about series is that even when I didn't like the first book in the series I still feel compelled to read the next books to.

10. Favorite hobby besides reading?
See Question 10 Avanti.

11. Favorite book to movie adaptation?
See question 7 Avanti.

Model Spy - Shannon Greenland

Hi!

Here's my review for Model Spy by Shannon Greenland.

Short description

Model Spy (The Specialists, #1)Teen genius Kelly James is in a lot of hot water. A whiz with computers, she agreed to help her college RA, David, uncover some top-secret information. After all, she doesn't have many friends and David has always been nice to her. It doesn't hurt that he's supercute and irresistible, too. All she has to do is hack into the government's main computer system. But a few hours later, her whole life changes. She is caught and taken in for questioning, only this isn't your run-of-the-mill arrest. Rather than serve a juvenile detention sentence, she accepts the option to change her name and enlist in a secret government spy agency that trains teen agents to go undercover. As if that wasn't overwhelming enough, she discovers that David works for this agency as well! And before she even begins to understand what is going on, she's sent on her first mission as an undercover model. And who better to partner with than David himself!

My opinion

Model spy is the first book in the specialist series. And oh boy I liked this book. GiGi, a.k.a. Kelly James, is a funny character, she’s the type that is funny without realizing it, what makes it twice as hilarious. And she is a total computer nerd, which I liked about her. You don’t come across very smart people in book often, which is a shame actually. But while GiGi is smart she’s also naïve, she believes people way to easily. But I hope that this will grow out of her in the next books. Another thing that could have been better and that I hope improves in the next books is that the other characters were flat characters. They were each great persons with their own story and I hope to find out more about them in the next books.
So this book was a quick, happy read that I really enjoyed.

Kiss of Midnight - Lara Adrian

Hi!

Here is finally my review for Kiss of Midnight by Lara Adrian. Enjoy!

Short description

Kiss of Midnight (Midnight Breed, #1)He watches her from across the crowded dance club, a sensual black-haired stranger who stirs Gabrielle Maxwell’s deepest fantasies. But nothing about this night—or this man—is what it seems. For when Gabrielle witnesses a murder outside the club, reality shifts into something dark and deadly. In that shattering instant she is thrust into a realm she never knew existed—a realm where vampires stalk the shadows and a blood war is set to ignite.

Lucan Thorne despises the violence carried out by his lawless brethren. A vampire himself, Lucan is a Breed warrior, sworn to protect his kind—and the unwitting humans existing alongside them—from the mounting threat of the Rogues. Lucan cannot risk binding himself to a mortal woman, but when Gabrielle is targeted by his enemies, he has no choice but to bring her into the dark underworld he commands.

Here, in the arms of the Breed’s formidable leader, Gabrielle will confront an extraordinary destiny of danger, seduction, and the darkest pleasures of all. . . .

My opinion

Midnight is definitely a book that shed another light on vampirism.  In this books they still burn when in sunlight, but the way new vampires are created is different than I have read in most books. Also these vampires don’t come from the earth, so in a way they are vampires and aliens how cool is that! And this is what made the book so refreshing, because the story on itself was not very special. Like in every vampire book that I have ever read there are good and bad vampires. And of course the good ones are fighting the bad ones.  But what made this book really different from the other vampire books was that this book was way more sexual/sensual than the others. So this isn't a book  for very young readers.
But all in all was it a book that was well written and it did read easily away. Definitely going to read the next one.

Night School - C.J. Daugherty

Hi!

Here's my review for Night School by C.J. Daugherty.

Short desription:

Night School (Night School, #1)Allie's world is falling apart...

She hates her school. Her brother has run away. And she's just been arrested.

Again.

Now her parents are sending her away to a boarding school where she doesn't know a soul.

But instead of hating her new school, Allie finds she's happy there. She's making friends. And then there's Sylvain, a suave French student who openly flirts with her. And Carter, the brooding loner who seems to have her back.

Soon, though, Allie discovers Cimmeria Academy is no ordinary school. Nothing there is as it seems. And her new friends are hiding dangerous secrets.

My opinion

When I read the short description of this book I didn’t know what I could expect. And the storyline turned out to be completely different than I expected. When I found out about the mystery of the school I was surprised in a good way. And I definitely want to read the next book to find out more about it. Of course there were also some point about the book that I didn’t like. When we first met Allie in the book she was trouble. But the moment she enters Cimmeria Academy  she is suddenly the good girl. She doesn’t do anything wrong, good points, good behavior… . So I missed the character from the first chapter. And then you have the two boys: Sylvain and Carter. They are each other’s opposites. Sylvain is charming, nice, sweet, popular, rich and has a lovely French accent. Carter on the other is a loner, rude, poor… but when you really get to know him you see that he’s completely different than you first thought. Some other point that I hope will improve in the next book is that some side characters will have more show time in the book. They are interesting but they didn’t have enough space in the book to tell their story. But still it was a good page-turner that I only can recommend to everyone.

Between - Jessica Warman

Hi!

Here is my review for between that I wrote I while ago. I just hadn't the time to upload it, but here it is finaly.

Short description
BetweenElizabeth Valchar-pretty, popular, and perfect-wakes up the morning after her eighteenth birthday party on her family's yacht, where she'd been celebrating with her six closest friends. A persistent thumping noise has roused her. When she goes to investigate, what she finds will change everything she thought she knew about her life, her friends, and everything in between. As Liz begins to unravel the circumstances surrounding her birthday night, she will find that no one around her, least of all Liz herself, was perfect-or innocent. Critically acclaimed author Jessica Warman brings readers along on a roller-coaster ride of a mystery, one that is also a heartbreaking character study, a touching romance, and ultimately a hopeful tale of redemption, love, and letting go.

My opinion
Looking at your own dead body, that isn’t something that you would ever thought possible. But it happened to Liz… on her 18th birthday.
From then on the story was very intriguing. Why did she die? And most of all why is there only one person who can she her. A boy who died a year ago through a hit and run accident. While Liz tries to find back her memories the story develops in unexpected ways. True some plotlines were predictable, but other events I had never seen coming. The characters to developed during the book. In the beginning Liz seemed shallow and a bitch, but in the end she won a place in my heart. And it was the same with all the other characters. The story only got better with every page I turned.
So Between was a very good story with a well-developed plotline and well worked out characters. Definitely a must read for anyone who likes reading YA with a bit of mystery.
